About WoodenWillys
How We Got Here
The idea started as a way to recycle and reuse an abundance of wood products left over from a home remodel. After seeing a random pic of an old Jeep Woody, I realized the leftover cedar siding I had would fit perfectly between the hinges of my Jeep Gladiator. So, I came up with some designs. Spent way too much money on a CNC machine and design software. Filled my garage with sawdust. The whole idea was designed to be magnetically attached since I didn't think people would want to permanently bond the wood panel to their vehicles. Unfortunately, in 2017 they started using aluminum body panels and my idea fell apart. The upside is I really enjoy the process and I really like the final products. So, I may still clad my Jeep in wood, but I doubt it will be a big seller for other. The upside is I still love the wood craft and will continue to use any wood I can recycle into art rather than see it in a landfill. Primarily, I will focus on 7"x15" designs to keep production easy and hopefully people will enjoy them as much as I do. Feel free to send me any ideas, suggestions or special requests.
Product and Production
The wood used in most of the production is beveled cedar siding approximately 7.25 inches tall with a max depth of 0.75 inches. The finished pieces are sanded, coated in polyurethane to protect the wood, and a thin coat of rubber sealant is added over the back to protect whatever surface you attach them to.

Please be warned before you make a purchase from this process, the whole idea here is to recycle scrap wood, so don't expect factory quality finishing. We are creating fun designs that are fully customizable. Be prepared:
1. The boards are not always straight or square and sometimes results in off-set designs.
2. The wood is very light, full of flaws and split edges. We will clean up the pieces and prepare it as much as we can but it is still scrap lumber.
3. Soft woods like cedar are not the best for carving intricate designs and there are always stray fibers and chips that will get through the clean-up.
All of this is to say that each piece is unique and will have it's flaws. This isn't mass produced or quality controlled. This is art that we hope you'll enjoy owning as much as we did creating it. Each piece is crafted one at a time and on demand, so please be patient.
